US Rig Count Dips Slightly

The U.S. idled three oil rigs this week and added two gas rigs for a net loss of one rig, according to data from Baker Hughes Company.
The nation’s active rig count now sits at 802, which is 274 fewer rigs than the count of 1,076 one year ago.
Alaska and Louisiana were the only states to add rigs, with the addition of two and one, respectively. Each of the following states idled one rig this week:
- Colorado
- New Mexico
- Oklahoma
- Texas
- Wyoming
Among the major basins, none added rigs this week. The Barnett lost two rigs and the DJ-Niobrara and Mississippian lost one rig apiece. The counts for the rest of the basins were flat.
The Permian holds the largest number of active rigs among basins at 405. This accounts for more than half of the nation’s total.
