US Drops Six Gas Rigs
The U.S. dropped six gas rigs and added one oil rig for a net loss of five rigs this week, according to data from Baker Hughes Co.
This week’s losses come after the nation finally saw a slight uptick in its rig count last week after almost two month’s of declines.
The total number of active rigs in the U.S. is now 851, down 216 from the count of 1,067 a year ago.
Pennsylvania led all states in declines with a loss of four rigs. Louisiana and Oklahoma followed with a loss of two rigs apiece, while New Mexico and West Virginia shed one rig apiece.
Texas tacked on three rigs this week while Ohio and Wyoming added one rig each.
Among the major basins, the Cana Woodford and Marcellus each lost three rigs.
The DJ-Niobrara and Permian each added one rig. The Permian now has 422 active rigs, which accounts for about half of the nation’s total number of active rigs.
