Up to 250 jobs are expected to be lost at Total in Aberdeen following the company’s takeover of Maersk Oil, the BBC has reported.

Total said it was consulting with its workforce and would try to find those affected jobs in other locations, according to the BBC.

Earlier this month, Total completed its acquisition of Maersk Oil, which resulted in the company becoming the second largest operator in the North Sea.

Commenting in the immediate aftermath of the deal completion, Total chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné revealed that the acquisition would generate more than $400 million of synergies per year, as a result of the strong overlap between Maersk Oil and Total’s assets.
