A fire broke out at the cathedral on Monday, damaging several aspects of the monument, which is over 850 years old. Several-hundred firefighters were deployed to tackle the blaze, according to the BBC, which reported Wednesday that officials said the cathedral was minutes away from total destruction.
On Tuesday, France President Emmanuel Macron revealed that he hoped the rebuilding of the Notre Dame Cathedral would be completed within five years.
Experts say the reconstruction of the cathedral could take decades, according to the BBC.
