Northern Endurance partnership (NEP) has tapped the servicers of TechnipFMC plc for carbon capture and storage projects. NEP, a joint venture between energy majors BP plc, Equinor ASA and TotalEnergies SE, is building carbon dioxide transportation and storage infrastructure for carbon capture projects in the United Kingdom’s East Coast Cluster.

TechnipFMC said in a media release that it was selected to deliver the first all-electric integrated project by NEP. The company will utilize its integrated engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (iEPCI) model to complete the project. Their all-electric solution will gather and inject pressurized gas into an aquifer for long-term storage, TechnipFMC said.

TechnipFMC said that this contract covers the supply and installation of an all-electric subsea system, including manifolds, umbilicals, and pipes. The all-electric system simplifies the field design, cuts infrastructure and installation time by eliminating hydraulic components and streamlining umbilicals. It also allows for the development of projects over long distances, the company said.

“This is a significant milestone for both our company and industry. Using proprietary CO2.0 technology, we have extended our Subsea 2.0 platform with the development of the industry’s first all-electric system for carbon transportation and storage. With this award, we are demonstrating how the competencies established in traditional energies are at the very core of the energy transition”, Luana Duffé, Executive Vice President for New Energy at TechnipFMC, said.

TechnipFMC has kept the financial terms of the contract undisclosed as it will not be included in its reports until NEP reaches final investment decision and the project gets all the regulatory approvals, it said. Both are expected in late 2024.
