Survey Reveals Top 10 Ideal Upstream Employers for 2019

5. Schlumberger
With origins dating back to 1926, Schlumberger Limited is a global oilfield services giant with operations in more than 85 countries. It provides products and services to assist customers with reservoir characterization, drilling, production and processing. The company, headed by CEO Olivier Le Peuch, employs approximately 100,000 individuals and maintains principal offices in Paris, Houston, London and The Hague.
4. Halliburton
Celebrating its 100th year in business in 2019, Halliburton is one of the world’s largest oil and gas service companies with approximately 60,000 employees in more than 80 countries. The company divides its 14 product service lines (PSLs) among two divisions, Drilling and Evaluation and Completion and Production. Moreover, both divisions integrate Halliburton’s Consulting and Project Management PSL.
Headquartered in Houston, Halliburton also maintains a key regional office in Dubai that manages its Eastern Hemisphere operations. Jeff Miller is Halliburton’s corporate president and CEO.
3. Chevron
Tracing its origins to California in 1879, Chevron Corp.’s reach in 2019 extends far beyond its headquarters in the state’s Bay Area. The integrated oil and gas company’s upstream portfolio focuses on the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico, offshore Western Australia, West Africa and onshore shale and tight resource plays in the U.S., Canada and Argentina. It expects to drill a total of 40 exploration and appraisal wells this year.
In 2018, Chevron reported global net production of more than 2.9 million oil-equivalent barrels per day and net proved oil-equivalent reserves of 12.1 billion barrels. Leading Chevron is Chairman and CEO Michael K. Wirth. In 2018, the company’s employee headcount totaled more than 48,600.
2. ExxonMobil
The world’s largest publicly traded international oil and gas company, Exxon Mobil Corp. maintains upstream operations in 38 countries on six continents. When factoring in its Downstream and Chemical business segments, ExxonMobil’s global reach is even more extensive.
For 2018, ExxonMobil reported more than 3.8 million net boe per day of production and proved oil and gas reserves totaling 24.3 billion boe. Some of the supermajor’s more noteworthy upstream operations include its onshore Permian Basin and Vaca Muerta activities in the United States and Argentina, respectively, and developments offshore Brazil and Guyana.
Darren Woods is chairman and CEO of Irving, Texas-based ExxonMobil, whose employee headcount exceeds 70,000.
1. Shell
Shell is the most desirable upstream employer, according to participants in Rigzone’s latest Ideal Employer Survey. The supermajor – headquartered in The Hague, the Netherlands – operates in more than 70 countries. Last year, it produced 3.7 million boe per day and employed approximately 82,000 people. Shell’s CEO is Ben van Beurden.
In addition to its Upstream business, Shell organizes its activities in its Integrated Gas, New Energies, Downstream and Projects and Technology units.
