A survey of Houston energy executives, HR staff and hiring managers expect little to no change this year in regards to hiring and company growth.
Oil and gas hiring in Houston is expected to remain relatively flat this year, according to the 2019 Houston Growth and Staffing Outlook Report by recruiting firm Murray Resources.
The survey of executives, HR staff and hiring managers – administered in December 2018 – is conducted annually to check the pulse of staffing in the city.
2019 results show that about 18 percent of the 76 surveyed are in the oil and gas industry. Here are some highlights from the results:
- 43 percent of respondents think the overall economic conditions in their company will stay the same in the next 12 months
- 64 percent of respondents think the overall number of people working in their company will stay about the same in the next 12 months
- “Retaining current staff” and “Attracting qualified employees” are tied as the biggest staffing challenge in the next 12 months (36 percent), followed by “Cost of health care” (21 percent) and “Succession planning” (7 percent)
- 50 percent of respondents expect a moderate increase in the hiring of full-time workers in the next 12 months
