Qatar Petroleum Awards North Field Contract
The contract calls for FEED work for offshore wellhead platforms, pipelines and cables.

Qatar Petroleum (QP) has awarded McDermott International, Inc. a contract to carry out front-end engineering and design (FEED) work for offshore wellhead platforms, pipelines and cables associated with its North Field Expansion (NFE) project, McDermott reported Thursday.

According to McDermott, the contract scope includes designing four offshore trunk lines with intra-field pipelines, eight wellhead platforms and power and fiber optic (PFO) subsea cable rings. The company stated that work will start immediately, with its offices in Doha, Qatar executing the FEED contract and drafting performed in Chennai, India.

McDermott noted the contract value ranges from US$ 1 million to US$ 50 million.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer Qatargas is executing the North Field Expansion mega-project on QP’s behalf. The North Gas Field – discovered 48 years ago – holds a total recoverable resource of more than 900 trillion standard cubic feet of gas and is considered the world’s largest single non-associated gas field, according to QP’s website. The North Field Expansion should ultimately generate $40 billion in new export revenue for Qatar, Bloomberg reported in Sept. 2018.
