Petrofac Scores Three-Year GTA Job from BP

Petrofac Ltd. has been awarded a three-year deal from BP for its Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project in Mauritania and Senegal.
In a media release, the energy services specialist said that the multi-million-dollar master services agreement includes onshore and offshore management and supervision, provision of personnel, and equipment maintenance.
“Having supplied operation services for the floating production storage and offloading vessel and liquefied natural gas hub since 2022, and developed operational procedures in 2021, this additional scope demonstrates BP’s confidence in Petrofac and supports our selective geographic expansion strategy”, said Nick Shorten, Chief Operating Officer for Petrofac’s Asset Solutions business.
“Petrofac already supplies the GTA project with deck crew services. This award to supply mechanical handling services across our nearshore and deepwater facilities can only strengthen our relationship”, said Rebecca King, BP VP for Production in Mauritania and Senegal.
The Tortue/Ahmeyim gas field, with estimated resources of 15 trillion cubic feet of gas, is located offshore on the border between Mauritania and Senegal. BP and its partners, Kosmos Energy, Societe Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures, and Societ des Petroles du Senegal are developing the project.
The initial phase of the project is expected to deliver approximately 2.5 million metric tons per annum (MMtpa) of natural gas.
The FLNG Gimi, contracted for the project, departed Singapore’s Seatrium Shipyard in November 2023 following conversion. The vessel is expected to arrive at its location soon. Gimi was converted from a 1975-built Moss LNG carrier and now has a liquefaction capacity of 2.7 MMtpa.
BP and its partners plan to boost the capacity of the project to 10 MMtpa through subsequent phases. Towards the end of February last year, BP and its partners confirmed the development concept for the second phase of the project, focusing on the gravity-based structure as the basis for the GTA Phase 2 expansion project with a total capacity of between 2.5-3.0 MMtpa.
GBS LNG developments have a static connection to the seabed with the structure providing LNG storage and a foundation for liquefaction facilities, according to BP.
The concept design will also include new wells and subsea equipment, integrating with and expanding existing GTA infrastructure.
