A crane fell at the platform, killing the operator and injuring two others.

A crane fell at a gas platform offshore Ancona run by Italian operator Eni on March 5, killing one person and injuring two others, Eni confirmed to Rigzone Wednesday morning.

“I regret to inform you that yesterday during an offload operation from the Barbara F to a supply vessel 60km offshore Ancona, the crane of the platform detached from the structure and fell into the sea,” an Eni spokesperson told Rigzone. “During the fall, the crane hit a supply vessel, injuring two people on the boat. Unfortunately, the crane operator died.”

The spokesperson said the body was recovered in 70m of water depth and was still in the cabin.

In a statement posted its official Twitter page Tuesday morning, Eni said it expresses its deepest condolences to the colleague’s family.

The spokesperson said all facts surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
