Global Marine Ordered To Pay Harland and Wolff

The Court of Appeal in London has issued its judgement in relation to the outstanding delivery installment payable on the deepwater drillship Glomar Jack Ryan, completed by Harland and Wolff in July 2000.

The judgement ruled that Global Marine, pay Harland and Wolff the amounts of US$27M and £3.3M originally awarded at arbitration.

In delivering their unanimious judgement, Lord Justice Potter, Lord Justice Clarke and Sir Martin Nourse found the question of construction in favor of Harland and Wolff and restored the original arbitration award of September 14, 2000, stating that it was not for the court to substitute it's own view for that of experienced arbitrators on such an issue.
