Shell Appraises Gro Discovery in Norwegian Sea

Shell has concluded appraisal drilling on well 6604/10-1 in the 6603/12-1 Gro gas discovery, with the objective to delineate the discovery. Drilled to a depth of 12,057 feet (3,675 meters), the well found gas in a 164-foot (50-meter) column in the Springar formation in the Upper Cretaceous. Even though the reservoir rocks are of a more substantial thickness, the reservoir quality is poorer than expected. Preliminary estimates now place the size of the discovery in the lower range of the original resource estimates. Additional studies must be carried out before the size of the discovery can be clarified. A formation test was not conducted, but data and sampling were gathered. The Gro license is located in the Voring Basin on Block 6603/12 in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
