TLS Wins Petro-Canada Contract

Petro-Canada has awarded a contract for a technical limit implementation on the east coast of Canada to TLS Ltd, a company owned 50/50 by KCA DEUTAG and RLG International.

Technical limit is the combination of expert knowledge of drilling with performance coaching and change management to deliver operational performance beyond previous expectations. Performance coaches implement a Plan/Execute/Measure/Learn cycle to ensure better communication, more careful planning and better preparation prior to a job so as to ensure smoother, safer operations and faster results.

A three-man implementation team will be working with the Terra Nova drilling team for an initial period of one year. The Terra Nova development is in the Grand Banks area offshore Newfoundland.

"Two performance coaches will work back-to-back on Transocean Inc.'s semisub, Henry Goodrich, with the drilling crews and a project manager will be working with the onshore team in St John's," explained Duncan Porteous TLS Operations Manager.

An additional benefit of the joint venture is that it has allowed TLS to administer the contract via RLG International Inc. in Canada, which will simplify the contracting and commercial logistics of international work.

"This is an exciting new project that has led to several firsts for TLS," said Gordon Williams, who represents KCA DEUTAG on the TLS board. "As well as being the first international work it is also the first contract where TLS will be working with a non-KCA DEUTAG contracted rig. It is also the first time that a KCA DEUTAG joint venture company has held a contract with Petro-Canada.
