CNOOC Limited and ChevronTexaco have selected Honeywell Process Solutions' Experion PKS(R) Process Knowledge System(TM) to automate operations and provide fire and gas safety throughout the Bozhong 25-1 offshore oilfield development. The $4 million contract is the third project awarded to Honeywell by CNOOC Limited.
"This is a very important project and automation is at the heart of this development," said Mr. Tian Nan, CNOOC Limited General Manager for the Project Development Team. "We selected Honeywell because of its excellent performance on previous offshore projects."
The Bozhong oilfield, discovered near the Port of Tianjin in Bohai Bay, China, is one of China's largest offshore oilfields. It is being developed as part of a joint venture between ChevronTexaco and CNOOC Limited.
Honeywell will engineer and install Experion to automate operations throughout the offshore drilling facility, increasing production and reducing operational costs. Experion will provide process monitoring and control, fire and gas safety and emergency shut down systems.
The Bozhong 25-1 development will include a new main floating production and storage (FPSO) platform and six well-head platforms. Construction of core platform components will take place at various locations, and will be completed in phases. Honeywell will provide automation systems to the FPSO and each of the six remaining platforms. When complete, the facility will include 7 process control systems and 17 emergency shutdown systems and fire and gas systems with Honeywell Safety Management Systems.
"The Bozhong development will be a model production and storage facility with state-of-the-art automation technology at its core," said Jack Bolick, President of Honeywell Process Solutions. "The result will demonstrate the full range, versatility and openness of Experion."
