SPE Aberdeen Appoints New Chairman
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section has appointed leading industry figure Chris Nussbaum as Chairman. Mr. Nussbaum took over the role from former chairman Jeb Tyrie and will hold the chair from July 2010-June 2011.
With 25 years experience of the oil and gas industry Mr. Nussbaum is currently operations manager at Seawell (Well Services Division) and is SPE Aberdeen chairman on a voluntary basis.
SPE is a huge international organization, with thousands of members in the UK, each of whom is affiliated to one of three UK Sections in Aberdeen, London and Great Yarmouth. Aberdeen is the largest of these, with over 2,500 members.
Mr. Nussbaum said, "I'm extremely honored to have been chosen by my peers as Chairman of the Aberdeen Section, and very grateful for the support given by my employer Seawell which allows me to undertake this role. The aim of SPE as an organization is to provide opportunities for our members and all industry professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence – to promote lifelong learning.
"Our volunteer organization reaches out to the Scottish community and to young people in particular, to disseminate and exchange technical knowledge concerning the energy industry. We hope we can thus enhance their industry experience and help people achieve their full potential.
"During my time as Chairman my aim is to facilitate the many wonderful and worthwhile initiatives that SPE Aberdeen members are involved with, raise their profile in the community, and encourage others to join us."
