Petrobras Uncorks Oil Offshore Brazil

Petrobras discovered a new light oil accumulation in the pre-salt layer of the Campos Basin in the Marlim field area. The discovery was made in the 6-MRL-199D-RJS well on the Brava prospect in a water depth of 2,126 feet (648 meters). The oil accumulation is nestled in pre-salt carbonate reservoirs of the Aptian age at a depth of 14,633 feet (4,460 meters). Preliminary estimates indicate potential recoverable volumes at about 380 million barrels of oil equivalent, and testing will be conducted to assess the productivity of the reservoirs. The discovery is located near existing infrastructure, so a fast tie-back development is likely.
