Parker Drilling's Barge PD18-B Suffers Blowout

Parker Drilling reported that a well control incident occurred yesterday afternoon during completion operations on its offshore barge Rig 18B. All eighteen crewmembers onboard at the time of the incident were safely evacuated, and there are no reported injuries. The incident occurred on the rig at approximately 5 p.m. CST in the inland waters of Terrebonne Parish, approximately 14.5 miles south of Amelia, Louisiana while working for Apache Corporation.

Based on the information currently available, the incident resulted in a fire; crews are currently on site working to extinguish the fire and bring the well under control. Parker Drilling, Apache Corporation, and the United States Coast Guard are continuing to investigate the incident and although no damage assessment to the rig has been made at this time, management believes substantially all of the loss will be covered by insurance. At the present time there is no indication that any fuel or oil on board poses any pollution threat to the coast.
