DONG Says Ophelia-1 Non-Commercial
DONG
DONG has finished drilling the Ophelia-1 (5603/32-4) exploration well approximately 15 kilometers west of the South Arne field in the North Sea. The well was drilled with the jack-up rig ENSCO 101.
The well was spud in mid-August in approximately 64 meters of water. Ophelia-1 was drilled as a vertical well and reached total depth at 4919 meters below mean sea level in layers of presumed Rotligendes age. The well encountered oil in the expected Upper Jurassic sandstones. However, the reservoir was tight and commercial production was not deemed possible at this location.
The results of the well are important for future exploration in this part of the Central Graben.
The companies in License 8/89 are DONG as operator with 23.624%; Amerada Hess with 63.263%; Denerco Oil with10.564%; and Danoil Exploration with 2.549%.
Ophelia-1 is now plugged and abandoned. The rig ENSCO 101 will subsequently be moved to the South Arne Platform to continue the development of the South Arne Field.
