Statoil Gets OK for Pre-Compression Installation on Troll A

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Statoil consent for installation of precompression on Troll A. During the design stage for the Troll A platform the pressure in the reservoir was expected to sink as production progressed.

Installation of a separate module with pressure booster equipment was therefore anticipated. Connection to the production systems was also facilitated in that connection points were installed in the relevant pipe systems.

The point in time when pressure boosting on Troll A becomes necessary depends on the production rate, development in reservoir pressure and market factors.

Based on gas sales allocated to Troll and expectations for new gas sales and deliveries of services to other fields, Statoil expects that pressure boosting will be necessary in 2005. The pressure booster module will mainly contain the following components:

  • pressure booster compressors with lube oil system and drivers
  • scrubber system
  • heat exchanger systems
  • cooling medium circulation pump

  • The two compressors to be installed before 2005 will be powered by electric motors with power supply from the Kollsnes gas facility. Solutions for installation of further compressors at a later date have also been designed.
