Conoco Tops API Safety Ranking

Conoco is the safest global energy company in the United States, according to the American Petroleum Institute (API) annual survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses in the Petroleum Industry. This is the fourth consecutive year Conoco has topped the safety list among its industry peers, and the 16th time in the past 22 years. Conoco also ranked No. 1 in the API's second survey of the industry's safety performance outside the United States.

Conoco's rate of 0.43 injuries or illnesses per 100 employees in the United States is more than three times safer than the average of all companies reporting safety statistics to API for 2000.

"Safely operating our businesses and achieving the goal of zero recordable injuries is not merely a vision -- it is reality for many Conoco business units," said Archie Dunham, Conoco chairman, president and CEO. "Sixty-three percent of Conoco's 52 business and administrative reporting units achieved the goal of zero recordable employee injuries in 2000. Many have achieved this goal for several consecutive years."
