Searcher Seismic, SeaBird Commence Acheron 2D Program
Searcher Seismic in conjunction with its project partner SeaBird Exploration have commenced the ACHERON Non-Exclusive 2D Seismic Survey.
ACHERON 2D Survey covers open acreage and part of 1 area of held acreage (WA-385-P) in the highly prospective southwest Carnarvon Basin. The survey area has been proposed by Searcher to be opened for bidding in the 2010 Federal acreage release round.
The M/V Aquila Explorer commenced operations on November 3, 2009 and is scheduled to initially acquire 3,500 km of long-offset 2D seismic data to the west of The Bernier Ridge in the Gascoyne area, with an option to return to the area in January 2010 to acquire an additional 2,000km of infill data.
Operations Manager Alan Hopping commented, "Searcher has worked with all partners to ensure that data will be acquired in optimal weather conditions and after the main whale migration season."
Searcher Seismic Director Odd Larsen further added, "The acquisition of the Acheron 2D Survey will provide the industry with an excellent opportunity to further evaluate the un-explored potential of the southwest Carnarvon Basin."
Data will be processed in Perth, Western Australia and first deliverables are expected in December 2009.
