OMS Takes Delivery of Vessels for North Sea, West African Deployment

Offshore Marine Services UK (OMS UK) has taken over the management and operation of four seismic support vessels, for operations in the North Sea and West African waters. The movement of the management of these ships from the Australian division of the OMS Group to the Aberdeen headquarters is part of the growth plans of OMS UK.

Over the next five years the Aberdeen office aims to significantly increase the number of support vessels under its management, operating in European and African waters by adding at least an additional 10 to the fleet. The four Chase vessels -- OMS Quest, OMS Resolution, Cassandra 5 and Jaya Mermaid 3 -- are on fixed three-year contracts with option periods and support seismic mother ships of a major global player in the geophysical industry.

This latest initiative builds on OMS UK's experience of fleet operation and management and supply of marine crews for offshore vessels to other marine operators. The company, which specializes in worldwide recruitment and supply of personnel to the offshore drilling and marine industries, continues to demonstrate excellent growth. With contracts up by 50% in the last twelve months, staff numbers in the Aberdeen office have also risen by approximately 50% during the same period.

"Operating our own vessels is a key part of our growth strategy for the coming five years," said director Stewart MacRae. "We aim to emulate the success of the OMS Australia division which grew its fleet from nil to in excess of 40 in a relatively short time frame.

"Under the guidance of John Reid, Director of Marine Operations, we are highly experienced in the operation, management and crewing of vessels -- therefore the move to operating our own fleet is a natural one for us."

John added, "With the significant growth of adding 10 vessels to our operation this will naturally require the increase of shore and offshore staff required to successfully run an operation of this size. We anticipate this being a busy and productive period as well as exciting as OMS pride themselves in the provision of a quality service to our Clients."

The Chase vessels, which have recently been constructed in the Far East, are of similar design. Fitted with fuel carrying capacity of 1000 tonnes, each ship is approximately 50 metres in length, with deck space of 225m². The vessels are manned by an international crew of 11 with accommodation for 20-30 people and are equipped to trade globally.

In parallel OMS UK is also further expanding its portfolio of marine consultancy services and marine support such as FPSO installation and removal, rig moving and positioning services, document review and vessel survey and audits to name a few.
