Centrica Taps Labtech for Accommodation Facilites Off Yorkshire Coast

Aberdeen-based offshore module design and build specialist Labtech Services Ltd, part of Sovereign Oilfield Group (Sovereign), has completed a £2 million contract with Centrica Storage (Centrica). Labtech was appointed to supply new accommodation facilities and a helicopter transit office in Centrica's Rough Gas Storage platform which is located off the shore of the Yorkshire Coast. The contract was set for a seven month period and Labtech successfully installed the new facility by Centrica's July 2009 deadline.

Labtech was responsible for the design, engineering, and manufacturing of six two man accommodation modules, a helicopter transit office, two HVAC packages, support frames, a laydown deck and a linking access corridor. The total weight for the completed facilities was in excess of three hundred tonnes. The contract also included project management of installation of the new facilities onto the deck of Centrica's supply vessel and onto the Rough Gas Storage platform.

Norman Porter, operations director of Labtech said, "This contract allowed us to continue to build on our reputation for quality, single-module accommodation units. We secured the contract by providing the best price and optimum technical solution for the new facilities within Centrica’s deadline. Using a design-led approach we provided Centrica with a bespoke package, from concept to delivery.

"The design, development, engineering, project management and manufacture were carried out in-house at our base in Aberdeen. We have a strong commitment to quality and health and safety and all project management, documentation, and certification was completed onsite, prior to deployment offshore. This ensures that all equipment is tested and fully operational prior to leaving the site."
