Harriet Joint Venture Spuds Gipsy-3 Well Offshore Australia

Tap Oil reports that the Gipsy-3 appraisal well was spud earlier this week offshore Australia. The well is located in TL/1, 15 kilometers east of Varanus Island and 1.2 kilometers south of the Gipsy 1 oil discovery. The well has a planned total depth of 2,370 meters measured depth.

The ENSCO 53, has been contracted to drill several additional wells over the next two months. Gipsy-3 is the first of these. Gipsy-3 is being drilled as a vertical pilot well to appraise a possible southerly extension of the oil pool at the North Rankin Formation level. In addition, the well will explore deeper secondary objectives within the Brigadier and Mungaroo Formations, at which levels oil and gas has been discovered in other wells within the Gipsy/Rose/Lee group of fields.

Gipsy-3 will appraise a possible additional 5 mmbbls of oil.

Should the well be successful, a development well would be immediately sidetracked out of the existing subsea wellhead at North Gispy-2H for immediate production.

The Gipsy-3 well is expected to take a further 4 days to reach the proposed total depth of 2,370 meters measured depth.
