Pemex Seeks Offshore Platform for Kambesah Field

Pemex is issuing a tender for the construction of a production platform to operate three wells at the offshore Kambesah field in the Campeche Sound area, located near other light oil fields in the Gulf of Mexico.

Discovered in August 2008, the Kambesah field is expected to produce an average of 13,700 barrels of oil per day and 9.3 million cubic feet of natural gas per day at peak production.

Pemex did not specify the cost of the development; however, construction is to commence on July 21 under a contract of 210 days.

To offset a steady decline in production since its peak in 2004, Mexico is ramping up its exploration and development ventures in older fields, as well as seeking to take a bigger bite of the Gulf of Mexico, where promising reserves lie untapped at deepwater depths.
