Maersk Contractors Orders Semisubmersible

Maersk Contractors signed a building contract with Keppel FELS for the construction of the drilling semisubmersible DSS-20-CAS-M, jointly developed by Marine Structure Consultants (MSC) and Keppel FELS.

The DSS-20-CAS-M is a cost-effective drilling unit that provides optimal operational capacity and safety features. The unit is well suited for the operations in the Caspian Sea in water depths up to 1000 m. It can drill up to 9,140 m with a variable deckload of 4,000 t.

The unit will operate in the Caspian Sea under a long-term contract with Exxon Azerbaijan Operating Company LLC and Chevron Overseas Petroleum Azerbaijan Limited which have Production Sharing Agreements with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).

The unit will be built jointly by KFELS in Singapore and Caspian Shipyard Cooperation (CSC) in Baku. The final assembly will take place at the Caspian Shipyard Cooperation (CSC) in Baku. The delivery is in the third quarter of 2003.
