Algeria Awards New Gas Pipeline to Italian, Egyptian Cos

Algeria plans to build a pipeline that will provide liquefied natural gas (LNG) to several Algerian provinces and the Italian island of Sardinia, Algerian radio reported.

The construction of the pipeline named GK3 was awarded by Algeria's Sonatrach to Egyptian Petrojet and Italian Saipem energy companies.

"The pipeline will meet demands in Skikda and El Tarf provinces. In the future, the pipeline project will be extended to Sardinia, Italy," Algerian Minister of Energy and Mining Chakib Khelil said. He added that the one billion US dollar contract will take 26 months to build.
