Williams Production Taps Paradigm for Geosteering, Drilling Software Apps

Paradigm announced that Williams Production, an integrated natural gas company, has selected Paradigm geosteering and drilling solutions for deployment on future well projects. The selection follows a successful trial period during which Paradigm technology produced increased drilling confidence and substantially reduced well cycle time. The announcement was made at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) Drilling Conference and Exhibition in Amsterdam.

Paradigm Sysdrill(R) and Paradigm Geolog(R) GeoSteer(TM), together provide a powerful log-scale interpretation capability that integrates petrophysical, geological, geophysical and drilling workflows. This well planning environment enables the design and engineering of complex well paths, based on a combination of seismic, geological and reservoir data, for optimal placement in the reservoir.

"No other well drilling technology does what Paradigm geosteering and drilling technology does," said Scott Roth, staff geoscientist at Williams Production. "It combines the information from 3D seismic surveys with the data obtained from MWD tools and produces an excellent visual display of the actual wellpath while drilling. This display allows us to verify that we are in our target zone and clearly indicates when adjustments to inclination are necessary to remain in the target zone. The end result is laterals properly placed in the target zone which should yield better completions, higher production rates and greater return on investment."

Using Sysdrill and Geolog Geosteer, the Williams team was able to successfully meet its drill time goal, while maintaining proper well bit placement, with true 3D visualization and calibration of seismic data.
