PetroChina to Double Production from Tuhu Field
PetroChina plans to double natural gas production from its Tuha Field to 2 billion cubic meters per year by 2007. The field is located in northwestern China in the Xinjiang region. Development at the field began approximately 10 year ago and has increased steadily. Last year the field produced 1.14 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
The company will now focus on exploration at three major trough in the Tuha basin in hopes of developing the 20 billion cubic meters of proven gas reserves over the next five years. Tuha basin has 365 billion cubic meters of gas reserves in place, with only 21% being proven recoverable so far.
