OGX Goes on a Rig Shopping Spree

OGX Oil and Gas Ltda. said in a statement today that it has concluded a deal with Diamond Offshore to contract the semisub Ocean Quest for a period of two years beginning in 2009. The rig will be used primarily for exploratory work in the Santos Basin offshore Brazil.

Earlier this month OGX also reported that it had contracted the Ocean Ambassador and Ocean Lexington semisubs for a period of three years each also beginning in 2009.   The rigs will be used for exploratory work in the Campos Basin. Currently, the Ocean Lexington is working offshore Egypt for BP and the Ocean Ambassador is in the shipyard in the Gulf of Mexico.
OGX also reports that it has discontinued negotiations with the Queiroz Galvao for the hire of the Alaskan Star. The company says it is advanced negotiations for a fourth rig which will allow the company to complete its planned exploration program in its current portfolio offshore Brazil.
