Navis Explorer I To Begin Petrobras Contract
|Tuesday, September 12, 2000
The newbuild deepwater drillship, Navis Explorer I, will spud its first well for Petrobras by mid-September. The rig's first well is located in the Campos Basin area offshore Brazil in 7,500 feet of water. The acceptance testing took longer than expected due to problems with the blowout preventer, which was replaced before the drillship mobilized to its first location. The Navis Explorer I is a dynamically positioned drillship capable of working in up to 10,000 feet of water and was built at the Samsung yard in South Korea.
