Kuwaiti Firefighters Begin Putting Out Oil Well Fires
According to reports from the Kuwait News Agency, firefighting teams began putting out oil well fires on Monday in the Al-Rumailah field. Kuwait Petroleum Official spokesman Sheikh Talal AL-Khaled AL-Sabah told Kuwait News Agency that the 23-person team began on Sunday inspecting some blazing oil wells in AL-Rumailah to determine the machinery needed to cap these wells.
The spokesman said capping operations are expected to last three to seven days depending on the size of fire in each burning well.
Team member Engineer Sara Abar told KUNA that there are nine burning wells in the field and that the team has readied equipment to douse four burning wells. She said preparatory work starts by de-mining the areas around the wells, bringing water needed for putting out the fires besides readying the necessary equipment.
