AIOC Increases Production from Chirag Field
AIOC produced 1.034 million tons of oil from Chirag field in the first two months of 2003, up 5% from the same period last year. The company produced 477,000 tons of oil from the field in February, down 2% from February 2002. The company said production dropped in February due to maintenance work at Chirag-1 production platform. Daily production dropped from 133,000 barrels in January to 126,000 barrels in February.
During the first two months of 2003 947,000 tons of oil was shipped through the Baku-Supsa pipeline with February accounting for 467,000 tons.
Seventeen wells from Chirag-1 (14 production and 3 injection wells to maintain bed pressure) have been drilled and an 18th well is currently being completed.. KCA Deutag is performing the work.
Planned production from Chirag this year is 6.45 million tons. Since the start of operations in November 1997, 25.5 million tons of oil has been produced from Chirag.
The Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field is operated by a BP-led consortium.
