New GE Oil & Gas Site To Feature VetcoGray, PII Pipeline Solutions
GE Oil & Gas, a leading supplier of equipment and services for the global oil and gas industry, will establish its Americas regional headquarters at a new 13.5-acre site at Westway Park II, now under construction at the intersection of West Beltway 8 and Clay Road in Houston. The new location will also be the new business headquarters for VetcoGray and PII Pipeline Solutions.
"Houston is a key center for the global oil and gas industry and this move reflects the exponential growth that our business continues to experience in the Americas region," said Claudi Santiago, CEO and President of GE Oil & Gas.
Globally the business employs over 12,000 people and in 2007 generated $7.7 billion in orders providing up, mid and downstream products, systems and services for customers in over 70 countries worldwide.
The new Houston facility will bring together close to 500 employees from several offices across the city including all GE Oil & Gas employees currently based at the West Loop and Briarpark offices. They will be joined by a number of people from VetcoGray's North Houston Rosslyn Road facility. The move is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2009.
GE Oil & Gas significantly expanded its presence in Houston and its core turbine and compressor portfolio with the acquisition in 2007 of VetcoGray, a specialist in upstream drilling, completion and production technology for the onshore, offshore and subsea industry. PII Pipeline Solutions joined the company in 2002 and from its Houston facilities provides services and tools for all aspects of pipeline integrity and inspection.
The announcement made earlier this week that GE had completed the acquisition of Houston-based business Hydril Pressure Control, further expands the company's upstream portfolio with pressure control equipment.
"Having the GE Oil & Gas VetcoGray, PII and Turbomachinery business leadership teams in one location will allow us to better integrate our organization and showcase the full range of our products and capabilities," said Dave Tucker, Chief Operating Officer for VetcoGray. "Westway Park II will offer our employees a state-of-the-art facility, and will make it easier for our customers to interface with all of our GE Oil & Gas businesses."
The company will maintain manufacturing operations serving the offshore industry at its North Houston Rosslyn Road and Business Park Drive facilities, while the Hydril Pressure Control business will continue to operate from its North Sam Houston Parkway location. In addition, the GE Oil & Gas Americas Service Center, which is focused on providing turbomachinery repair technology and a range of service support activities, will continue to be located at Aldine Westfield Road. In total, GE Oil & Gas employs 2,000 people in the Houston area.
In keeping with the spirit of GE's ecomagination commitments, the facility is being built to incorporate green building standards and strategies arranged according to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System and will seek the LEED-NC Silver certification.
Some of the features to be implemented in the new facility will include GE ecomagination products such as Energy Star appliances, energy-efficient light fixtures and daylight dimming systems. Further environmental consideration has been made with the use of low solvent emitting paints, primers, adhesives, sealants and carpet systems.
