Ryan Joins Baker's Harrisburg Office as Vice President of Transportation
Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation, has named Michael Ryan, P.E., vice president of Transportation in the Harrisburg, Pa., office. He will support Baker's Pennsylvania Transportation business, as well as the national pursuit of innovative infrastructure projects including public/private partnerships, design/build, and toll road facilities.
Ryan joins Baker from H.W. Lochner, Inc., where he served for five years as vice president. Prior to that, he had a 35-year career with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) where he served in several management capacities including district engineer, state director of maintenance, chief engineer and deputy secretary for highway administration. He managed all design, construction and maintenance activities for the Department, and developed guidelines and regulations relative to highway administration. He also provided context sensitive solutions direction for the development of policies and training for PennDOT design staff and for consultants doing business in Pennsylvania.

Ryan has a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from Bucknell University. He is a member of several professional organizations including: American Society of Highway Engineers' Board of Directors, the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and Transportation Research Board. He has also won AASHTO's 2002 President's Special Award for Merit, AASHTO's 2002 Distinguished Service Award, the National Academy of Sciences' Lifetime National Associate in 2002, and the FHWA 2003 Administrator's Public Service Award.
