Repsol Considers Kazakhstan Development

Reposl would be given the opportunity to develop the Darkhan field offshore Kazakhstan if the company also invests in the Amangeldy field. Kazakhstan's Energy Ministry said development of the Amangeld natural gas field may have to be halted due to a lack of financing. Approximately $80 million is needed to complete the project.

KazMunayGas and Repsol have started talks on the joint development of Darkhan in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian, which is estimated to hold about 5 billion barrels of oil in reserves. Repsol has already signed a letter of intent with KazMunayGas to work jointly in Amangeldy in southern Kazakhstan.
