ATR Gears Up for Caspian Growth

Aberdeen's ATR Group has completed its initial investment in its first international operation. The company has already invested almost half a million in the Azerbaijan base and recruited a team of ten people to drive the business forward.

Following the acquisition of Bridon International's business in Baku last September, ATR Group set about investing in 27,000 square feet of warehouse and office accommodation and over U.S. $490,250 of stock.

A market leader in the rental of specialised tools and equipment for the UK offshore oil and gas operations and maintenance industry, ATR Group aims to capitalize on the increasing demand for this type of equipment by the operations and maintenance companies in the Caspian.

"We are now very much open for business in the Caspian," says ATR Director, Robert Skidmore. "The acquisition of an established business was an opportunity for ATR Group to fast track its plans for the Caspian and we have already doubled the workforce. The team, led by business development manager Allan Wilson, is a healthy balance of ex-pats and local people with an appetite to build a dynamic business.

"Our initial focus is on lifting gear and on the supply of hydraulic hose and fittings. Building on Bridon’s reputation in lifting gear, we now offer a wide range of lifting equipment for sale and rental as well as inspection services and we have invested heavily in a 250 tons horizontal tensile testing facility for wire ropes and slings, believed to be the highest capacity Grade 1 test facility in the Caspian."

"In October 2007 we added hydraulics to the mix, with the import of an extensive stock of hose and fittings and invested in our capability to provide ancillary testing and flushing services. We now have a quarter of a million pounds of hydraulic hose and fittings stock in country, all from major European suppliers, enabling us to assemble and supply a wide variety of hoses for immediate despatch, avoiding delays awaiting overseas shipments."

"We also plan to replicate in Baku the specialist tool rental service that the group is well known for in the Aberdeen area. This will again focus on zone rated equipment with a full service, maintenance and certification service. We are currently working with several clients to define the assets required in the area."

"The established business and facility of Bridon in Baku has given us an excellent platform on which to replicate in the Caspian the successful services we offer in Aberdeen to the North Sea service companies," fellow ATR Director Keith Moorhouse added. "We have been very well received by clients in Baku and plan to respond to opportunities and requirements with further investment."

ATR Group is planning other international offices in the near future and is currently looking at opportunities in North Africa, the Middle-east and South-east Asia.

With a turnover in excess of U.S. $29.4 million and over 80 staff, ATR Group comprises five separate companies which provide a comprehensive range of specialist and certified tools and equipment for rental and a supporting range of services and products.
