Shell To Resume Operations on Dooish Field in May

Shell subsidiary, Enterprise Energy Ireland, will resume drilling operations at its Dooish prospect offshore northwestern Ireland in May of this year. Operations were suspended last fall due to poor weather conditions.

"We've confirmed a hydrocarbon discovery but we've not yet been able to test it as the weather window is quite short there," said an Enterprise Energy spokeswoman. Dooish is the second deepest well ever to be drilled in Irish waters. Work to develop the gas discovery would be challenging considering the remote location of the find. The government hopes Dooish will help kick-start exploration activity that has been slow to take off in order to lessen Ireland's dependence on imported energy.

Last year the government announced a new licensing round that would open up the entire Porcupine Basin off the west and southwest coast of Ireland for frontier exploration licenses.

Enterprise is the operator of the Dooish will with a 50% stake; Agip holds 40% and OMV holds the remaining 10%.
