Roc Oil Spuds Mentelle-1 Well

Roc Oil reports that the Ensco-53 jackup has spud the Mentelle-1 exploration well. The Mentelle-1 surface location is approximately two kilometers northeast of the northern boundary of the Cliff Head Oil Field. The well will be drilled as a vertical hole to a Total Depth of 1,592 meters below Rotary Table. Regardless of drilling results, the well will be plugged and abandoned without testing for reasons relating to operational cost efficiencies.

As a consequence of the successful testing of the Cliff Head Oil Field appraisal well CH-3-ch-1, the WA-286-P Joint Venture has agreed to drill at least one additional well after operations at Mentelle-1 have been completed: Vindara-1. This well will test an exploration prospect, which straddles the boundary between WA-286-P and TP/15, approximately three kilometers to the southeast of the Cliff Head Oil Field.

Further decisions about the details of the forward drilling program subsequent to Vindara-1 will be made nearer the time, in the light of the drilling results analyzed between now and then, but it is currently expected that Vindara-1 will be followed immediately by Cliff Head-4.

Commenting on Mentelle-1, ROC's Chief Executive Officer, Dr John Doran stated that: "Despite its proximity to the Cliff Head Oil Field, the Mentelle Prospect has genuine exploration risk attached to it because seismic coverage has been constrained by the presence of shallow sea bottom conditions".

The WA-286-P Joint Venture comprises: Roc Oil as operator with 30%; AWE Oil with 27.5%; Wandoo Petroleum with 25%; ARC Energy with 7.5%; Voyager Energy with 5%; Westranch Holdings with the remaining 5%.
