A new field discovery of natural gas has been made by Spinnaker Exploration in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico on High Island Block A-7 approximately 40 miles southeast of Galveston. The no. 2 well was drilled by R&B Falcon's jackup, Cliffs 152 in approximately 40 feet of water. The well was drilled to a total measured depth of 14,128 feet true vertical depth and encountered 63 feet of net pay. The well has been cased for production and completion operations are underway. Gas from this discovery and the High Island Block 202 field development will be processed through company-operated facilities on High Island Block 199 with first production from A-7 expected to start late in 2000. The discovery on High Island A-7 is expected to produce at a rate of 20 million cubic feet of gas per day. Additional exploration wells are planned for later this year.
