Bharati Shipyard: Construction Commenced on Jackup Rig

Bharati Shipyard Ltd announced that the keel laying ceremony of the self-elevating jackup drill rig Samed Shikhar was held at its Dabhol Shipyard on January 11, 2008.

P C Kapoor, managing director said "We are very happy to perform the Keel Laying ceremony for the 450-foot self-elevating jackup drill rig, being the first of its kind to be built in India. We are very glad that the ceremony is being performed jointly with officers from Great Offshore Ltd., the owners of the rig."

"The rig will be built at our Dabhol Shipyard," he said. "The construction of various parts of rig is already in progress at our Dabhol Shipyard and the other yards. This fabrication is being carried out at various yards and the fabricated parts will be transported to Dabhol where the rig will be erected. Dabhol has a very good natural draft of water which makes Rig construction easier and more efficient compared to our other yards."
