NPD Okays Drilling Permits for Two StatoilHydro Wildcat Wells



The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted StatoilHydro ASA a drilling permit for wildcat well 7222/6-1S in the Barents Sea using the Transocean Polar Pioneer semisub.

The well is located in production license 228 which consists of eight blocks and is approximately 175 kilometers north-northwest of Hammerfest. Production license 228 was awarded in the Barents Sea Project in 1997. This would be the first well drilled in this license.

The drilling permit is conditional upon the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to start-up of the drilling activity.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has also granted StatoilHydro ASA a drilling permit for wildcate well 6507/11-9 in the Norwegian Sea. Well 6507/11-9 is located in Production license 263 approximately 230 kilometers north-northwest of Kristiansund and covers blocks 6607/10 and 6607/11. Production license 263 was awarded in the 16th licensing round in 2000 with Norsk Hydro Produksjon AS as operator. Wildcat well 6507/11-9 is the third well to be drilled in PL263. Seadrill's West Alpha semisub will be used to drill the well.

The drilling permit is conditional upon the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to start-up of the drilling activity.
