Oil Spill Occurs at Statfjord A During Offloading
During oil offloading from the Statfjord A platform in the North Sea, about 4,000 standard cubic meters of crude oil was spilled into the sea on the morning of December 12th.
The spill occurred when the tanker Navion Britannia was loading oil from a loading buoy.
NOFO (the Norwegian Clean Seas Association for Operating Companies) has been notified about the spill and is preparing emergency actions.
An aircraft from the Norwegian Coastal Administration and a helicopter have been deployed to determine the extent of the discharge.
The wind speed at Statfjord is currently around 45 knots in northern direction and the wave height is up to 7 meters.
The Statfjord field is located around 200 kilometers west of Bergen, close to the border of the UK continental shelf.
