Iain Lights Joins Lloyd's Register

Lloyd's Register has made a significant appointment to support its growth in the oil and gas sector, with Iain Light joining Lloyd's Register as Global Oil & Gas Director.

Based in Aberdeen, Iain is tasked with directing the Oil & Gas division's global strategy to position Lloyd's Register as the leading provider of compliance, integrity and specialised consultancy services to clients in the oil and gas industry, satisfying increasing demands for safe and sustainable operations.

"Increasingly challenging markets and the worldwide surge in demand for energy provides Lloyd's Register with very real growth opportunities", says Iain Light. "With independence comes integrity, and Lloyd's Register is uniquely placed to help clients achieve the highest standards of technical integrity and safety".

The recent events in the North Sea concerning the Thistle and North Cormorant platforms have highlighted the importance of asset integrity and asset management.

Iain Light continues: "The industry must seriously address the reliability and performance of ageing facilities and companies must assure themselves that their platforms can produce safely with active risk management and focus on the safety and business critical elements of their operations".

Lloyd's Register already has a strong position in the sector, with the Oil & Gas division enjoying revenue growth of 19% in 2006/7, following a similarly strong performance in the previous year. The Group has experienced significant and successful expansion in the America's operations with the acquisition of the world leader in risk based inspection, Capstone, and is close to completing a further acquisition in the field of risk management services to the offshore drilling industry.

Lloyd's Register's Chief Executive Richard Sadler said of the appointment: "We are delighted to be welcoming Iain to the Group. He has an extremely strong track record in the oil and gas sector and the appointment underlines our commitment to recruit the very best talent. In addition to driving organic growth, Iain has a healthy short-list of acquisitions to ensure we are positioned to support the safety and integrity of clients' global projects".
