Blake Offshore to Convert MOPU 8 to Workover Unit
Blake Offshore
Blake Offshore is converting its jackup Mobile Offshore Production Unit, MOPU 8, into a cantilever workover and well servicing unit. It will be equipped with a 350 kip, 650 hp workover rig that will be capable of cantilevering 40 feet beyond the end of the hull. It will be supplied with a variety of pumping and mud tank configuration options which will facilitate, both conventional workover operations as well as side tracking or drilling in "Open Hole".
The converted unit which will be known as Blake Rig 208 is a Bethlehem designed Mat Slot jackup capable of operating in water depths from as shallow as 11 feet (with the Mat deballasted) to as deep as 250 feet. In addition to its cantilever capabilities the "Rig Assembly" will have complete "skid off" and rig floor "set off" capabilities. Blake is also contemplating installing propulsion assist features to the unit which will allow it to be moved and spotted on location with one 4,000hp tug boat. The rig which is to be re-classed as a Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU) is expected to be ready for operations by March 2008.
