Chevron Names John McDonald Chief Technology Officer

Chevron Corporation

Chevron reported that John McDonald, currently vice president of Strategic Planning, will become chief technology officer, succeeding Donald Paul, who will retire from the company in 2008 after more than 32 years of service. Paul Siegele, currently vice president of Deepwater Exploration/Projects, will replace McDonald. McDonald and Siegele will assume their new roles on Jan. 1.

"Over the course of his outstanding career, Don has made many significant contributions to our company and the industry, where he is widely recognized as a thought leader in advanced energy technologies and their role in defining the evolution of the energy business," said Dave O'Reilly, chairman and chief executive officer. "Don's unique ability to combine innovation with practical application helped establish the integrated model for how we approach the development and deployment of technology across the company."

Paul, 61, joined the company in 1975 as a research geophysicist with Chevron Oil Field Research Company. He went on to hold a variety of management positions in both the upstream (exploration and production) business and technology, including president of Chevron Petroleum Technology Company and president of Chevron Canada Resources. Most recently, he played a leading role in the National Petroleum Council's landmark oil and gas study. He also led the development of Chevron's biofuels business unit, which is working to commercialize the development of renewable fuels.

In his new role, McDonald, 55, will serve as corporate officer for Chevron's three technology companies: Chevron Energy Technology Company, Chevron Information Technology Company and Chevron Technology Ventures LLC.

McDonald began his career with Texaco in 1975 as a geophysicist in the company's Calgary office and went on to hold positions of increasing responsibility at various locations around the world. In 1996, he was named vice president for Texaco's Exploration and Production Offshore Division in New Orleans. In 1998, McDonald was appointed vice president, Production, for Texaco International with responsibility for Europe, based in London. In 1999, he was named managing director, Texaco Ltd. After the merger of Chevron and Texaco in 2001, he was appointed managing director of ChevronTexaco Upstream Europe, based in Aberdeen, Scotland. He assumed his current position in November 2002.

"The development and deployment of advanced technology is absolutely critical to our success," O'Reilly said. "John combines a deep knowledge of our business with a practical understanding of technology application and integration. As CTO, he will be focused on continuing to enhance the company's technology leadership."

Siegele, 48, will assume the role of corporate vice president, Strategic Planning. He began his career with Texaco in 1980 as a petroleum geologist in the Los Angeles operations division and has held numerous technical and managerial positions in California, Texas, New York and Argentina throughout his career. After the merger of Chevron and Texaco in 2001, he was appointed manager, Exploration, Chevron North America Exploration and Production Company in New Orleans. He was named vice president, Deep Water Exploration/Projects, in June 2005, where he has managed the company's industry-leading exploration initiatives in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
