Secretary of the Interior to Open Central Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 205



Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne will be in New Orleans on October 3 to make opening remarks at the Central Gulf of Mexico (GOM) Lease Sale 205. Immediately following the bid reading, C. Stephen Allred, Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management (ASLM) and Randall Luthi, Director, Minerals Management Service

The annual sale held by the MMS encompasses 5,359 unleased blocks covering approximately 28.7 million acres in the Central GOM Outer Continental Shelf Planning Area offshore Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. The blocks are located from three to more than 224 miles offshore, in water depths of 12 feet (four meters) to more than 11,200 feet (3,400 meters). The MMS estimates the lease sale could result in the production of 0.776 to 1.292 billion barrels of oil and 3.236 to 5.229 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
