BP Begins Production from Nam Con Son

First gas from the Nam Con Son Basin in Block 6-1 is expected to start flowing this week through a 247-mile pipeline linking the Nam Con Son Basin with the Dinh Co Terminal in Ba Ria-Vung Tau. The $1.3-billion project is Vietnam's largest foreign investment project, between the PetroVietnam, BP, ONGC Videsh and ConocoPhillips.

BP reported that the first gas from the basin was brought to the Lan Tay exploitation derrick at 2.am on November 22, marking an important breakthrough for Vietnam's oil and gas industry. The project will produce about 3 billion cubic meters of gas each year over the next 20 years, and will help Vietnam generate 12 billion kWh of electricity annually, that will meet 40% of the domestic power demand.
