DSI to Provide Commissioning for Shell Perdido

Deepwater Specialists, Inc. part of international energy services company John Wood Group has been selected by Shell Offshore Inc. to provide commissioning services for the Perdido Regional Host facility to be installed in the Alaminos Canyon area of the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.

Under the terms of the contract, DSI is developing the commissioning plan and schedule, functional test procedures, the site materials control plan, permit-to-work system, commissioning control and reporting process, and the commissioning certification database.

During fabrication of the topsides production deck, quarters building and the hull, DSI will coordinate mechanical completion activities and documentation with the construction teams in Ingleside and Houston, Texas, and in Pori, Finland. Precommissioning and commissioning activities will be completed at each site before the topsides and hull are integrated offshore. Final functional and dynamic testing will be conducted offshore by DSI prior to start-up and first oil, expected to occur around the turn of the decade.

"We are very pleased to have been selected to provide commissioning support for Perdido," stated Trey Lambert, executive vice president of DSI. "This contract builds upon a long-standing relationship with Shell. DSI has commissioned several Shell projects including Brutus TLP, Ursa-Crosby subsea tieback, Na Kika Semi-submersible, Mars Water flood, Bonga FPSO, and currently the Ursa-Princess Water flood project"

Commissioning is a key stage that is critical to meeting performance goals right from the start of any project. Commissioning aids in proving the integrity of operating and safety systems, helping to ensure assets and personnel are protected, start-up risks are mitigated, and cost and schedule overruns are avoided.
