Regulators Coordinate Public Review of Deep Panuke

Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB) and the National Energy Board (NEB) will coordinate the public review of the proposed Deep Panuke Offshore Gas Development.

The coordinated public review would see the appointment of a CNSOPB commissioner and an NEB member to conduct the public review of the project applications through one series of public hearings. This is the first time such a coordinated process has taken place and the two regulatory authorities expect it will make the regulatory review easier for public participation.

In the first step of the process, the CNSOPB and NEB have prepared a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and documents related to the coordinated regulatory review, including a draft Directions on Procedure (DOP) and a draft Terms of Reference for the CNSOPB Commissioner (TOR). These documents outline how the coordinated public process will unfold.

The public is invited to provide written comments on the draft documents before they are finalized. The deadline for written comments from the public is 4:30 p.m. AST, Monday, November 25, 2002.
